The next in the series Deep in the Word will begin on 18th September. It will be a 7 week course, with a 2 week break in the middle to coincide with the Dundee October holiday. This time we will be looking at 1 Timothy, the first of Paul’s letters to Timothy
1 Timothy is the first of what are called the Pastoral Epistles. Letters like Romans and Ephesians were written to churches. 1 and 2 Timothy, and Titus were written by Paul to one of his fellow workers, though it is likely that Paul knew, and intended, that they would have a much wider application. They tell us a lot about how the church should operate. 1 Timothy chapter 2 should also promote some interesting discussion as it contains verses that are the focus of much debate on the role of women in the church.
The course will be particularly suitable for small group leaders or those interested in leading small groups, and for others involved in any pastoral work and preaching. However, it is suitable for anyone who wants to learn more about God’s word and is prepared to put some work in.
You will be required to do “homework” before the lessons and it will be hard work. The “homework” consists of you been given some questions to think about prior to each week’s class. You do not have to submit this “homework”, but it is important to do the preparation. You will also be required to give a ten minute talk on some aspect of 1 Timothy in the final week. I have always been greatly blessed by the talks in the final week. If you have a hunger for God’s word and are willing to put the effort in, then sign up.
It is important that you sign up beforehand. The course take place on Mondays at 7:30pm at the Gate, with each session finishing by 9:00 pm. It will start on Monday 19th September, and run on 18th, 25th September; 2nd, 23rd, 30th October; 6th, 13th November.
If you wish to take part please sigh up below by 5th September.
