Venue / Facilities Manager

Contract Duration:           Fixed term to 31 March 2020 (with a three-month probationary period)
Salary:                             £18,525 pro-rata (£9.50 per hour)
Pension:                           6% Employer Contribution subject to 2% Employee Contribution
Holiday Entitlement:         5.6 weeks pro-rata (includes public holidays)
Hours of Work:                 7.5 Hours per week with opportunity for overtime when required
Location:                         158 Perth Road, Dundee, DD1 4JS (regular local travel required)



As part of the Gate Church International Staff Team you are responsible for the day to day management of our St Mark’s Venue, including implementation of all policies and procedures for venue and equipment use, in order to deliver a high level of service to all stakeholders and maintain health and safety compliance.

In addition you will be responsible for implementing our Venue Business Plan to maximise income generation from facilities hire and further our venues reputation for providing exceptional service, both for internal and external events.

Essential knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience and personal qualities

  • Proficient in ICT including Google Apps, Microsoft Office and Microsoft Windows

  • Extensive health and safety knowledge, especially of its practical application within the context of both a venue, and live events.

  • Able to demonstrate excellent customer service skills, with proven experience in managing relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.

  • Able to demonstrate excellent staff and volunteer management skills

  • Able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, both oral and written 

  • Full Driving Licence, any penalty points to be reviewed.

Desirable knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience and personal qualities

  • An understanding of the structures and ethos of Gate Church International

  • An understanding of working in a charitable or faith based organisation

  • An understanding of the importance of maximising commercial income in a not-for-profit organisation.

  • First aid qualification and/or IOSH / Health & Safety qualification.


  • Responsible for a well maintained, clean and tidy venue, working alongside venue staff and volunteers to ensure excellent venue operation and exceptional customer service

  • Responsibility to ensure efficient and effective practices for venue management, usage and space allocation

  • Managing venue calendar and bookings including responsibility to ensure appropriate personnel on site during events

  • Implementing our Venue Business Plan to maximise income generation from facilities hire and further our venues reputation for providing exceptional service, both for internal and external events.

  • Planning and documentation of all systems and procedures for efficient running / use of venue and equipment

  • Directing and planning essential central services such as security, maintenance, cleaning, catering, waste disposal and recycling

  • To be the primary key holder for the building, responding to security and fire alarm calls when required.

  • Ensure that all necessary building and equipment maintenance contracts are kept up to date and that best value is obtained at all times.

  • Ensure all front and rear of house areas are presented to a high standard, are secure and health and safety compliant at all times.

  • Oversee day to day building maintenance issues to ensure that repairs are carried out in a timely and safe manner.

  • Ensure that all building systems are maintained and fully operational at all times, with particular focus on all life safety systems and the burglar alarm

  • To ensure all periodic inspections and checks that meet licencing and health and safety obligations are carried out appropriately, and certification, risk assessments and any other due diligence and/or auditable paperwork is completed and maintained professionally.

  • Recruit volunteers to support venue and event management (i.e. cleaning, decorating, gardening, catering etc.), organise training for and manage volunteers ensuring each volunteer is valued, developed and equipped to carry out their role.
