JOB TITLE: ASSOCIATE PASTOR


Location: Gate Church International, Perth Road Dundee
Responsible to: Pastors - Gordon and Fiona Stewart
Accountable to: Nominated Trustee
Hours/Work Pattern: 35 hours per week including evenings
Contract Status: Fixed for 3 years (may be extended) including 3 month probation period

PVG Disclosure Status: Enhanced

Salary: Self-funded but accommodation provided

ROLE PURPOSE:

To be a key member of the Gate Church International Ministry Team. Have visionary input to lead our Young Adults work and develop it so that it works cohesively with other GCI ministries and its wider community work. To develop meaningful, ongoing contact with churched & unchurched young people & young adults and develop mission and Bible Based Christian Education (such as internship teaching) opportunities among young people.

To have responsibility to oversee the growth and development of the worship ministry team along with its leaders at Gate Church International.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee and develop our young adults programme; this would include the development regular mid-week meetings programme, theological input,  supporting & disciplining young adults and reaching other young adults in the surrounding community.
     

  • To take responsibility for the work amongst students.
     

  • Link to the Sunday Worship programme to provide life related teaching in a Christian environment.
     

  • To develop and co-ordinate missional, relevant and engaging young adult and student activities.
     

  • To organise relevant special events, including residential, through the year for young adults. This may  include linking with other groups for residential events.
     

  • Have an active role on our church staff team with specific input to help engage youth and students.
     

  • Take lead role and supervise volunteer teams of youth workers to provide the above programmes.
     

  • Engage with universities to out reach the local student population.
     

  • Ensure young adults work is relational in its approach, developing relationships with young people and encouraging & equipping others to do the same.
     

  • When directed help Pastor offer support to youth for moral & social issues such as bullying, drug/ alcohol abuse, family breakdown, low self-esteem etc.
     

  • Be in touch with youth & student culture and relate this to ensure our work is relevant.
     

  • Develop 'out of the box' creative thinking, striving to bring a fresh approach in all areas, helping to ensure our work is a high standard and delivered with excellence.
     

  • Be part of the GCI ministry team working closely with the Pastors and Elders.
     

  • Have administration skills for a variety of tasks relevant to the post – organising and advertising projects, managing time, liaison with volunteers/leaders/church/ team/ families/ outside organisations.
     

  • Work with worship/music team(s) and team leaders to ensure ongoing high quality worship at all GCI services and meetings.

The post holder should be well motivated and able to work using their own initiative. There will be reasonable levels of flexibility and opportunities for development within this post.


The post holder will be aware of and comply with the Church’s statutory policies and procedures, including child protection, safeguarding vulnerable groups, health and safety, confidentiality, and disclosures. It is also a Genuine Occupational Requirement (Equality Act – part 1, schedule 9), that the post-holder is a committed Christian.
