I love to read the Psalms in the bible and I especially enjoy reading King David pouring out his soul before God, you can tell the Holy Spirit was his Chief Therapist!
In Psalm 142, David says
“I cried unto the Lord with my voice; with my voice I made my supplication unto the Lord. I poured out my complaint before Him; I declared to Him my trouble... Attend to my cry for I am brought very low; deliver me from my persecutors for they are stronger than me. Bring my soul out of prison that I may praise Your name”.
For me it highlights the importance and the beauty of being honest when we come before the Lord. Sometimes our breakthrough is not in the “Hallelujah, bless You Lord” but in the “Lord, I’m in a dreadful place, this stinks, this sucks, what is going on?...Nevertheless you’re still worthy of praise”.
I truly believe that praise without honesty is a song without soul.
I encourage you as you listen to this song to be honest with God - tell Him how you really feel and what is really going on with you. He can handle it all.
But don’t just end there, square up your soul against His majesty and you won’t help but worship.
