Acts of Kindness - Operation Christmas Child

As part of the 40 year celebrations we want to reach out to our community through Acts of Kindness.

Each month we will have a theme for our kindness acts. This month the theme is “Love Your Neighbour”.  We would like to encourage you to show kindness to your friends, family and neighbours.

Our whole church activity this month will be sending love to our international neighbours by taking part in Operation Christmas Child by sending shoeboxes of presents to disadvantaged children around the world.

Operation Christmas Child is the world’s largest Children’s Christmas project, run by the Christian relief and development organisation Samaritan’s Purse. Its mission is to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to needy children around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

If you would like to join us in this project, here is something you can do:

How to pack your shoebox

Get an empty medium sized shoebox and wrap the box and lid separately. Decide if your gift is for a boy or a girl, select age category and affix the label from this leaflet.

Select a ‘wow’ toy that a child will cherish, like a beautiful doll, a deflated football or cuddly toy (with CE label).

Completely fill the box, adding other TOYS such as toy cars, skipping ropes, musical instruments, yo-yo's or bouncy balls, SCHOOL SUPPLIES such as pens, pencils, crayons, notebooks, colouring or sticker books and NON-LIQUID HYGIENE ITEMS such as toothbrush, toothpaste, bars of wrapped soap, comb or hairbrush, flannels etc. You can also include a PERSONAL NOTE AND PHOTO of you or your family/group.

DO NOT INCLUDE used or damaged items, war related items such as toy guns, military figures or knives; chocolate or food; liquids or lotions including bubbles; medicines; hand-made stuffed toys; anything of a political, racial or religious nature; sharp or fragile items.

Don’t forget to pray for the child who will receive your gift.

Include a £3 shipping donation for each shoebox you fill. If you donate online at Follow Your Box, we will let you know the destination country of your shoebox in the New Year.

Bring your shoebox to church and put it in the giant box next to the stage during the Sunday Service 1st, 8th or 15th of November.

Contact the church office if you would like to know more information or you need additional materials like boy/girl age labels.
